The item that I’ve held throughout my lifespan and criss-crossed the nation with, is a little electronic chess set. It runs on 2 AA batteries and has 8 contrasting skill levels. Of course after 43 years the white pieces are a fleck yellowed and I’ve lost a knight along the way, however for the most part and an exchange of batteries once in a while it has lasted with me since I was twelve years of age.

My chess set has lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Alaska and New York. It endured marriage and held up with kids. It stays patiently in a cupboard for me to find a moment for a game. Naturally I’ve never done it justice, only ever making to skill grade five and most of the time being comfortable at level three or four, but it has been a regular friend. It’s hard to think a chess set could be constructed in 1964 and run on until now, but it survived and it’s still here waiting to play!

Nearly unaltered for the last five hundred years, the game of chess remains immensely popular. Nowadays, it’s approximated that over 605 million people internationally are informed of the game.

How to become started yourself?

It’s not as hard as you may think, but it does need a bit of a primer. To begin, let’s initiate with the primary instruments of the game. There are actually only 2 essentials: First, the chess board and secondly, the chess set.
