How to Work a Tibetan Bowl
February 20th, 2010
If you grip Tibetan Singing Bowls in your grip, it remains free to vibrate. Then, you can gently run a mallet across the edge of it. This is what makes the singing sensation, often used for Tibetan meditation. You can also quietly tap the wall of the bowl. This generates a bell-like chord. Either style you play crystal singing bowls, it is the vibrations that generate the sound, like if you glide your finger around the edge of a goblet. The pitch of the noise can be changed depending on the bowl density. Bowls can be as wide as six to twelve inches. You can also increase the mallet velocity to change the sound.
